Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Corrective Action
Several million underground storage tank (USTs) systems, which contain petroleum or hazardous chemicals, are currently in use nationally. KU Resources acknowledges the wide spread use of USTs and can aid clients through the often-complicated regulatory process associated these tanks. We offer services ranging from determining responsibility of abandoned USTs to developing a cost effective remedial solution.
Federal, state, and local governments regulate USTs to ensure that owners and operators meet various requirements. Regulatory inspections may cover a variety of procedures that owners and operators must follow. Today, tank owners are federally required to demonstrate financial responsibility. This financial obligation requires owners to prove that they have the available funds to cleanup a leak or spill from a tank or line. Most states have established trust funds, paid for by motor fuel sales taxes, to satisfy this requirement. Many states and the federal government encourage the insurance industry to take over this obligation to allow the states to retire their funds.
