KU Resources’ incorporates a diverse and highly seasoned group of individuals to perform numerous projects throughout the United States. Combining our personnel’s knowledge and experience allows us to target numerous markets, including:
- Brownfield Site Assessment, Remediation, and Redevelopment
We have been involved in the characterization and remediation of active and former industrial properties for a number of years. Much of our recent work has been in support of the redevelopment of environmentally impaired properties. In addition to technical activities, KU Resources has effectively worked with our clients to identify and prioritize potential redevelopment sites, and have assisted our clients in acquiring funding to support brownfield activities.
- Wood Treating
Our staff of professionals has worked at over 100 operating and former wood preserving and wood preserving chemical manufacturing facilities. Our understanding of regulatory and technical issues allows us to offer practical solutions to our clients.
- Pennsylvania Act 2
KU Resources has been actively involved in the development of the Pennsylvania Land Recycling Program. One of our Principals, Mark Urbassik, an appointed member of the Pennsylvania Cleanup Standards Scientific Advisory Board, has worked with PADEP to develop the implementing regulations and the supporting guidance for Act 2. We have performed many projects under the Act 2 Program and assisted clients in obtaining brownfield funding grants at over a dozen sites.
- Real Estate Transaction Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessment
We have supported numerous clients through industrial and commercial real estate transactions. Our staff is fully knowledgeable of the required ASTM procedures, which allows us to provide timely solutions to our clients.
- Underground Storage Tanks (UST) Corrective Action
KU Resources has been involved in a number of UST projects. Our experience includes tank removal management, as well as, investigation and risk assessment activities to determine the significance of any impacts from releases and evaluate the need for remedial action.
- State Voluntary Cleanup Programs
KU Resources has expertise and knowledge for a number of states voluntary cleanup programs. Our staff includes personnel certified under West Virginia's and Ohio's voluntary programs. We understand the risk-based approaches embodied in most of these programs, and have the ability to work with clients to meet the requirements of the various state programs.
- Corporate Environmental Management Programs
We have a strong experience base as corporate environmental managers, and have been responsible for working with business managers and counsel to develop and implement a number of environmental management initiatives. Issues that we have managed include corporate compliance auditing programs; protocols to maintain consistency with the National Contingency Plan; protocols to support the presentation of cost recovery claims, and the defense thereof; and protocols to maintain consistent approaches for multiple sites.
- Remediation
Our experienced project managers have completed numerous remedial projects using turn-key approaches, which can save our clients both time and money. Instead of dealing with numerous contractors and coordinating their activities to solve their problems, our clients work with one company which handles it all. We can quickly review the technical, regulatory, and strategic needs of projects, and work with clients and subcontractors to complete those projects on time and within established budgets. The methods implemented typically result in cost savings through efficient and innovative remedial solutions.
- Railroads
KU Resources’ experienced project managers are capable of managing any type of environmental railroad project from start to finish. Using the expertise of our personnel combined with a selected group of specialty subcontractors, we offer our railroad clients a full-service, turn-key approach to meeting their remediation needs. Through KU Resources, our clients have access to an organization currently providing environmental remediation, engineering, consulting, and waste transportation and disposal to a wide group of clients.
