KU Resources specializes in environmental services associated with former and active wood preserving and wood preserving chemical manufacturing facilities. Our personnel have performed project work at over 100 wood preserving facilities, beginning in 1979 and continuing to the present. We have been actively involved with wood preserving sites since the beginning of RCRA groundwater monitoring requirements, the initiation of the CERCLA program, the initiation of the RCRA Corrective Action program, and the development of various State voluntary programs.

KU Resources is currently working with ten wood preserving industry clients, on more than 35 individual sites in 20 states. Our work includes site characterization/remediation under RCRA Corrective Action, CERCLA, and various State voluntary program protocols. In addition, we are providing assistance with remedial planning and review of investigation/remediation work performed on behalf of previous owners at operating facilities. We also perform compliance reviews and audits, and ongoing regulatory compliance/permitting services to clients in the wood preserving industry.

We are very familiar with performing large multi-media environmental site characterization, risk assessment, and remedial planning/remediation projects at active and former wood preserving sites. We understand the occurrence and migration potential of wood preservatives in the environment at these sites. Our project focus is always on performing reasonable human health and ecological risk-based evaluations of site conditions, and on developing realistic risk-based remedial approaches to address any risks posed by the site. Where remediation is determined to be appropriate, our approach prioritizes natural attenuation, containment, and in-situ techniques.

KU Resources also specializes in brownfield redevelopment of former industrial facilities, and has worked with multiple clients to integrate site redevelopment and remediation activities to allow future use of environmentally impaired properties.
